    ●       The resin tanks/cylinders.

    The resin tank, also referred to as the mineral tank is a cylinder accommodating the resin beads, which substitute the hardness ions with less-objectionable Na+ or K+ ions. In dual-tank water softeners, there are two resin tanks. While one of the cylinders is being recharged, the adjacent tank takes up the task of softening your hard water.     The control valve is simply the mechanical control unit of the dual-tank water softener. The hard water is moved into the mineral tank and forced to penetrate through the resin beads. In the resin tank, the resin beads attract the divalent ions responsible for water hardness (calcium and magnesium).

In twin tank water softeners, the mineral tank with reduced softening capacities is regenerated while the twin tank continues to soften hard water.
